The team behind this nasal comparison

The Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital is staffed by four consultants working inside a tertiary general hospital. Ke He, MD, is responsible for the medical review of this site, and she is the physician who performs the injectable treatment described here. A decision about a nose genuinely involves the others: the Center Director's surgical and revision assessment, which is where a nose that needs structure changed, or that has already been operated on, is judged; the aesthetic surgeon's view of what an operation would change; and the dermatological assessment of the skin the nose is covered by.

Skin, laser and injectable aesthetics · nasal injectable safety · the non-surgical route

Dr. Ke He is Deputy Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital and head of its skin and laser aesthetic service — and she is the lead physician of this site. A core specialist formerly at the Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery Department of Xinqiao Hospital, affiliated with Army Medical University, she has worked on the clinical front line in skin laser and injectable aesthetics for more than 20 years, serving over ten thousand patients.

The nose is the area where an injectable carries its most serious risk, and Dr. He’s position is that this is a reason for a stricter assessment rather than for refusing the treatment. She assesses the airway question first, establishes whether the problem is one of volume or of structure, and declines to inject a nose that needs to be smaller, because no amount of material makes a nose smaller. Where injection is appropriate she plans for the possibility of a vascular problem, keeps the means to dissolve the material available, and tells the patient what to look for afterwards. She also says plainly what is not known about volume added to the same nose repeatedly over years.

Clinical focus

  • Nasal assessment, including the airway question before the profile
  • Injectable treatment of the nose, and the volume problems it suits
  • Recognition and management of vascular occlusion, including dissolving
  • The interval between nasal filler and any later operation
  • Honest limits: what injection cannot reduce, and what is not known long-term

The nose is not a cheek

Material placed in the nose sits in an area with a blood supply that communicates with the skin and, in the rarest cases, with the eye. That does not make nasal filler unreasonable; it makes it a treatment that belongs with an injector who assesses it as carefully as an operation, and who can dissolve what has been placed.

Does your nose need something added, or something reduced?

An assessment begins with the direction of the change, and with whether the airway is obstructed. We will say plainly what each route would change in your nose, what it cannot change, what is not known about repeated injection, and what we would advise if neither were the right answer for you.
