Arranging an assessment

Outpatient appointments are booked through the hospital on the numbers below; international patients can ask for Michael Yu. Bring a list of your current medicines, including anything that affects clotting, any previous treatment to the nose and when it was given, any history of nasal injury or sinus problems, and a written description of what bothers you. If you have been offered a plan elsewhere, bring it: reviewing a plan is a legitimate reason to book.

What the assessment establishes

Whether the airway is obstructed, and by what, which is established before appearance is discussed. Whether the complaint is one of volume or of structure: a dip or a small asymmetry is a volume problem, while a hump, a wide bridge or a heavy tip is a structural one. The thickness and quality of the skin over the nose, which affects both what an operation can achieve and how visible an injectable might be. Any previous injury, and any previous filler with the interval since it was placed. And whether the nose is still growing, which rules out an operation for the time being.

Asking about the plan

Ask whether your problem is one of adding or reducing, and what the proposed treatment would change and leave. If an operation is proposed, ask whether grafting would be needed, what the recovery involves and what a revision would mean. If an injection is proposed, ask what would happen if a vascular problem occurred, whether the material can be dissolved, and what is known about repeating it. And ask what would make this the wrong option for you.

Before you commit

No decision needs to be made at the first appointment and no treatment is required by any calendar. Take the plan away, read it against the guides on this site, and come back with questions. A discount that expires, or pressure to book before an assessment is complete, is information about the clinic rather than about your nose.
